What the fed has to do is to sacrifice the currency to avoid a 1930s-style depression. They're going to almost explicitly say, "We're going to let the dollar fall as far as it has to fall. We've got to protect jobs, et cetera, et cetera. We can't let the economy just go completely bust. So, if we have to have eight, nine, or 10% inflation forever, we'll just have to accept that as the least bad in a menu of bad options."
